The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Nursing. UMMC is the state's only academic health science center and encompasses six health science schools: medicine, nursing, dentistry, health-related professions, graduate studies and pharmacy. Integral to its education and research missions, UMMC provides wide-ranging patient care programs through University of Mississippi Health Care (UMHC). Four specialized hospitals on the Jackson campus include the only children's hospital in Mississippi, a women and infants' hospital, and a critical care hospital. UMHC offers the only level one trauma center, the only level three neonatal intensive care nursery, and the only organ transplant programs in the state.
The UMMC School of Nursing is the only Nursing School in the State of Mississippi to be located on an Academic Health Science campus. Founded in 1948, the School offered the state’s first baccalaureate program, first master's program in nursing, first collaborative doctoral program, and first nurse-run primary care clinic. Faculty Practice at the UMMC School of Nursing includes all aspects of reimbursed health care services. In addition to teaching and faculty practice, faculty conduct research for insight and solutions to health care problems. Educational programs in the School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
The Dean is the chief academic, administrative, and fiscal officer of the School.
Requirements for the position include: an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field; a distinguished and scholarly record of achievements in teaching and research that is consistent with an eligible appointment at the rank of Professor with tenure; demonstrated excellence in leadership, administration, and resource development; commitment to cultural and ethnic diversity; and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, University administrators, and other constituent groups. The candidate must be a visionary who strongly supports the education, research and service mission of the School.

The Search Committee will accept confidential applications and nominations until the position is filled. Candidate screening will begin immediately. For best consideration, applications and nominations should be provided by July 15, 2010. An application should include a letter describing relevant experiences and interest in the position; a resume; and the names of five references with titles, addresses, business and home telephone numbers and e-mail addresses. The submission of materials as Microsoft Word attachments is strongly encouraged. Individuals who wish to nominate a candidate should submit a letter of nomination, including the name, position, address and telephone number and email address of the nominee. Greenwood/Asher & Associates, an executive search firm, is assisting the University in the search.
